About me
Thinzar Tun, from Myanmar (Burma), a Hubert Humphrey Alumni of VCU (2023-2024) received a Master degree in Development Management as a scholarship student at the Asian Institute of Management in Manila-Philippines in 2003. After graduating, she was a co-founder of the Asian Harm Reduction Network (AHRN), an international NGO that promotes harm reduction approaches for people who use drugs in Myanmar. Through her work with AHRN for 20 years, Thinzar played a pivotal role in advocating, fund raising, and developing programs for harm reduction practices specifically tailored to the needs of people who use drugs in hard to reach and conflict-prone areas of Myanmar. Currently, she is working as a Director of Best Shelter Myanmar, a local NGO working with people who use drugs including women and youth, through innovative community-based harm reduction programs, advocacy, and training. She is also a member of the Women and Harm Reduction International Network (WHRIN) and shares her team’s work at international conferences, media publications and network allies.
