About me
Paul Stevens is a person in recovery and the director of public policy and legal affairs for Oxford House, Inc., where he has worked since 2004. He is a passionate advocate for the critical role of evidence-based recovery housing in the continuum of care for substance use disorders and the significant increase in long-term recovery outcomes they produce. He advocates for state legislation and regulation that will ensure the highest quality standards in recovery residences and allow evidence-based models to thrive and increase capacity. Previously, he served as the regional manager overseeing field staff operations for over 225 Oxford Houses in Virginia, DC, and Maryland. During that time, he expanded the network of Oxford Houses in Virginia from 55 to over 165 with over 1,350 beds, established and developed one of the first Oxford House annual state conventions with attendance now over 375 and one of the first Oxford House State Associations. In 2013 at the Oxford House World Convention he was the recipient of the Oxford House Founder’s Award. His recovery journey began, with his 2½ year membership in a Richmond, VA Oxford House, and he still calls Richmond home 23 years later. He has a bachelor’s degree in government from Georgetown University and a master’s degree in sociology from Virginia Commonwealth University. He is a National Certified Peer Recovery Support Specialist.
