About me
Michael Litterer is a nationally recognized healthcare executive with over 25 years of experience leading large-scale transformation initiatives to improve access, efficiency, impact, and financial sustainability in healthcare. As the Principal Consultant for Connect Care Strategies, he partners with healthcare organizations to innovate and scale patient-centered care delivery models that address substance use disorders and social care challenges.
Previously, Michael served as Vice President of the RWJBarnabas Health Institute for Prevention and Recovery, where he spearheaded groundbreaking programs that reshaped hospital and community-based substance use disorder recovery services, social care integration, and health equity strategies. Under his leadership, peer recovery services expanded statewide, impacting over 20,000 patients annually and setting national benchmarks for hospital-based recovery support. He also oversaw New Jersey’s largest tobacco cessation program, led multiple prevention coalitions, and played a key role in the creation of NJ’s first public recovery high school, providing vital support for young people in recovery.
An expert in policy development, strategic innovation, and patient-centered care models, Michael has secured over $20 million in grant funding, developed groundbreaking reimbursement structures, and pioneered social care integration in
Epic. His work has been published in leading journals and presented at national forums, including the NIH HEAL Initiative and America’s Essential Hospitals.
A summa cum laude graduate of Rutgers University with an Executive Master’s in Public Administration, Michael is a Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) and a Fellow of the New Jersey Healthcare Executive Leadership Academy (FHELA). His leadership extends to state and national advisory committees focused on behavioral health, health equity, and social determinants of health. Recognized as a Becker’s Hospital Review Rising Star in Healthcare, Michael continues to drive innovative solutions that bridge care gaps and improve outcomes for vulnerable populations.
