About me
Kate Gibson, BSN, RN is a Registered Nurse having worked in surgery/trauma and emergency rooms since 2017. Kate is a person in long-term recovery and a passionate advocate for her peers. Kate also works diligently to support other healthcare professionals in, or seeking, recovery from substance use disorders. When she isn’t treating patients in the emergency room, Kate enjoys teaching medication education to clients at an intensive outpatient treatment program (IOP). Otherwise, Kate is working diligently at Virginia Commonwealth University’s School of Nursing where she is concurrently pursuing her Doctor of Nursing Practice as a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and an Advance Certificate in Addiction Studies with the International Programme in Addiction Studies (IPAS) through VCU, King’s College London and the University of Adelaide, Australia. After graduation, she plans to practice exclusively in addiction medicine as a DNP-PMHNP. Her professional interests include adolescent addiction medicine, peer recovery support, and post-incarceration re-entry treatment.
